After a long years search I finally was able to find for my wife a very nice Karmann Ghia Type 14 convertible. I located the car at the VW-Winterfestijn in January 2011 in Rosmaelen/Holland. The car was standing at the booth of Fred Sijm, who offered the car for sale for one of his customers. A dutch upholsterer had imported the Karmann from the U.S. and had restored it with lovingly care during ten years. Everything was overhauled and the complete chassis was powdercoated. The meanwhile retired upholsterer restored professionally the softtop and the seats. He finished the car in 2007 and only drove it 1250 mi. since then. A new Porsche project and ack of storage space forced him to sell the Karmann in the beginning 2011. Fred Sijm, his former parts supplier did him the favour to find an apropiate home for the Karmann. Before official road inspection in Germany the whole undercarriage was wax sealed. The first original 1500 engine is still in the car and will get grey cardbox hoses for the heaterbox airfeed and a black ignition coil. The top will get a black tonneau instead of the red one now installed. The gas instrument is not working and I would be very happy, if anyone would be offering a nice spare unit to me!
